Is link building manipulation that might hurt your Google rank and a waste of time?
I found this video from Income School about that you might do not want to spend too much time about building back links as it is a outdated SEO strategy that dates back to the 90ties and many SEO experts are stuck in this old method. Google might even consider your link building as manipulation and it might hurt your ranks on search engines like Google.
It is just better to create good content that provides value to users and they will then by themselves link to your website which might prove a better strategy as it is basically automatic link building which is so much easier and saves you time and resources.

Well I mainly focus on On-Page SEO as I think that is the best option. Not sure about if they are correct about that Google considers manual link-building as manipulation, but it is an interesting angle that one might have to consider. I believe in that content is still king and that if you create good content then people will value that and thus link back to you. So I do agree on that part.
